The Storycrafting method gives life to children’s own stories

Storycrafting is a narrative method when a new fairy tale or a story is being created by a narrator and another person. The method is most often used with children. A child or a group of children tell a story, and the adult writes it down and reads it so that the narrator can correct possible mistakes.

The website Lapset kertovat (Children Are Telling) contains information about the application of the Storycrafting method in Finland and abroad. Here one can find material on research, projects, education and publications related to the subject, as well as links to other websites and videos. On the website one will also be able to find stories by children, young adults and elder people in various languages.

The Storycrafting method is a result of many years’ research and development work in Finland, Norden and many other countries. The international Day of Storytelling is celebrated on the 20th of March.

Korvaan päin (Into the Ear) – a book about children’s stories

In a new book, Korvaan päin (Into the Ear), 1 – 12-year old children tell funny, exciting and thoughtful stories. The book is children’s own mouthpiece. It also describes how the Storycrafting method can be used. The book has 104 pages and colourful illustrations. So far, it has been published only in Finnish.

The instructions on the Storycrafting method

Tell me a story.
Do it in the way you want. I will write it down.
When the story is ready I will read it aloud.
And then if you want you can correct or make any changes.
