World congress for professional theatre for children and young people in Copenhagen and Malmö

ASSITEJ Denmark/Sweden have won the right to host the world’s largest event for professional Theatre for Children and Young People in 2011.

ASSITEJ is a professional World Theatre Network of Theatre for Children and  Young People. It links theatres, organisations and individuals through national centres in more than 75 countries all over the world and holds its congress every third year. The congresses offer an international theatre festival, seminars and symposiums, co-operation projects, meetings etc.

At the 2008 ASSITEJ World Congress which has just taken place in Adelaide, Australia – the Danish and Swedish ASSITEJ Centres presented their bid to host the next Congress in May 2011. The event is to take place in Copenhagen / Malmö and will focus on collaboration across national and cultural borders. Our theme will be: 'Building bridges, crossing borders'.
In strong competition with Linz, Austria, and London, UK, the Danish delegation succeeded in convincing the congress that the event in 2011 should be placed in Copenhagen / Malmö.

ASSITEJ expects a total of about 1,200 participants, including delegations and participating theatres representing about 75 different countries. Next to that about, 35,000-40,000 spectators from both Denmark and Sweden will have access to the various performances.
