Conference 'Nordic culture at school' in Stockholm

Constant structures, anchorage and mutual respect for each other's profession are essential preconditions for cultural initiatives to succeed at school. This was something everybody agreed upon when the Swedish Arts Council held a Nordic conference on the role of culture at school on the 5th of May.

The conference was held in connection with the meeting between the Nordic ministers of culture in Stockholm on the 6th of May. The Swedish Arts Council invited a number of key persons who are active at school and in the field of culture in the Nordic countries.

The significance of clear-cut structures was running all through the conference. A number of examples were mentioned: The Cultural Rucksack in Norway that has been run since 2001, the Danish initiative 'The Artist in Residence Scheme' that has existed since 2004 and that made it possible for children to meet professional artists, as well as the initiative by the Swedish Government 'Creative School' that has just concluded its first round for applications.

You can read the whole summary on the homepage of the Swedish Arts Council, as well as a number of conclusions that were arrived at during the meeting and documentation from the conference. The Final Report (Slutsatspapper) in Swedish
