e-poem: Gratis poems to Norwegian pre-school kids

The Østfold county library, together with Norwegian Writers for Children (NBU), has started a new literature promotion project. The target group of the e-poem is pre-school children.

The idea behind the project is sending a new poem by e-mail every week to all those interested: kindergartens, schools, libraries, parents of young children all the other persons who would like to get it. The project is financed mainly by Arts Council Norway.

Rhymes and jingle are a nice way of playing with the language. Owing to their concise form, the poems are easy to use in a busy everyday life, moreover, they come directly to the kindergarten or one's room . The goal of the project is to revive the poem as an activity that stimulates children's reading and language skills in kindergartens and at home and to stimulate contemporary authors to write good poems for children.
