Art pedagogy as a remedy for children with reading and writing disabilities in Sweden

Museum employees and educationists are using history and art in an attempt to find new ways of teaching pupils with reading and writing disabilities.

Employees at Nationalmuseum, in collaboration with teachers at the Lillholm/Ekholm school in the district of Skärholmen (located southwest of Stockholm), have been working with a project where history and art are used in an attempt to find new ways and methods of teaching pupils with reading and writing disabilities. The idea behind the project was to get started the children’s writing process by means of focusing on images; thus interactivity between text and image that could simplify the process of learning would be created.

After the project, the pupils find it easier to work with their writing exercises and they produce much more imaginative texts than ever before. If you are interested in learning more about the project, you are welcome to contact Veronica Hejdelind at Nationalmuseum vhd@nationalmuseum.se .
