‘Listaleypurin’ – the Cultural Rucksack to the Faeroe Islands
The model used here is the Norwegian ‘cultural rucksack’. The pilot project in the Faeroes will be run for 3 years, and its mission is to develop and implement a system of presenting products of art, i.e. the visual arts, stage arts (music, theatre and dance) and film, video etc., and to strive towards the goal of involving young people in the process of selection.
Meanwhile the project focuses mainly on pupils, Listaleypurin is functioning as a platform for artists where they can produce art for a young audience and meet their target group. In the Faeroe Islands, this is an opportunity to engage the professional artists, most of whom have been studying and working abroad, in producing art in their homeland.
The first catalogue for schools is due to be released in February 2008. Ten pieces of art, representing various forms of art and aimed at various target groups are offered to the Faeroese schools. A panel of experts assesses the quality of the artists’ applications, and the approved pieces of art are included into a brochure.
The main aspect of the idea is that the artists do not choose where they would like to go – they are given a schedule of touring. Thus the administrators of the project are actively trying to avoid concentration of offers of art in the region of the capital.
The word ’Listaleypur’ can literarily be translated as ’art impedimenta’.
