Robot race for secondary school pupils in Greenland

Pupils from four schools in Nuuk took part in a major FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robot race in November last year. It was the second time that FLL final was held in Greenland and the tournament was organised by the Administration for children's and culture issues in Nuuk, in co-operation with the society Inutek.

Technology tournament in Nuuk

FIRST LEGO League is a technology tournament for children. The idea was conceived in 2000 in USA, and events are now organised in some 30 countries all over the world. Greenland is part of the Scandinavian Department, and the teams in Nuuk contested to win a trip to Herning in Denmark, where the Scandinavian final 2007 was to be held.

FLL

The goal of FLL is to provide children and young people with some positive educational experiences and by combining theory and practice to stimulate their curiosity and creativity.
The target group is kids from 10 to 16 years. Here, the same principles as in 'the real life' are applied for task and problem solving. The pupils have to do research, study literature, develop strategies, create design, construct and programme, test and report. It is important that the pupils should not be focused only on technology, but also gain an insight into the advantages and problems in connection with technology.

Final

The winning team Fantastic Five went to Herning to take part in the inter-Scandinavian final on the 1st of December, where about 40 teams from all over Scandinavia were competing.

Fantastic Five finished somewhere in the middle of the field. They were quite satisfied with their achievement. A big number of teams from other countries had participated in the game for many years and had invested a lot of work (also after school)into the project. Some of the participating teams made fantastic presentations. Read more (in Danish)...
