SWOP - a new international dance festival for children and young people in the Roskilde region

The SWOP festival, which is a new international dance festival for children and young people, will be held for the first time in the Roskilde region, Denmark, on the 19th - 27th of May by Åben Dans. SWOP is a regional festival. Nine dance companies will give 50 performances in eight towns in the region with Roskilde as the epicentre of the festival.

SWOP is inspired by the new wave of artistic development within contemporary dance for children and young people across Europe in recent years. This rapid development has resulted in new European cross border networks, such as e.g. Fresh Tracks Europe ; and European choreographers are exploring new innovative ways of creating dance for young audiences. The audience - from toddlers to dance eager 17 year-old teenagers from the entire region - can look forward to an exciting blend of Danish and European performances. All of them hand picked by Åben Dans. You can read more about these fantastic performances here on the website.

As part of SWOP a seminar about children's experience of dance, 'How do children experience dance?', will be organised.
