Do you want to play with me? - an Icelandic survey of children's playing preferences
Do you want to play with me? Shall we play tag or shall we rather play hide-and-seek? What about computer games? What are the games that children prefer playing? What is the role of children's toys in the games played at home and at school? These are some of the questions to be answered by the project Contemporary collection – children's games in the beginning of the twenty first century.
The project was initiated by The Icelandic Centre for Ethnology and Folklore in co-operation with the National Museum of Iceland and a number of Icelandic museums of antiquities.
The goal of the project is to collect information about the games played by children, toys and photos. The participants of the survey are fifth-formers from all over the country.
Owing to the close co-operation between the museums it is possible to conduct a sufficiently extensive survey that would offer an insight into children's daily life today.
The results of the survey are going to be presented in the form of exhibitions and publications in all the museums that take part in the survey.
